Sami Kastrati

Head of Public Communications and Public Diplomacy

Sami Kastrati, is a career diplomat with the Foreign Service of the Republic of Kosovo currently assigned as Head of Public Communications and Public Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Before assuming his current duties in March 2017, he was Deputy Chief of Mission at the Kosovo Embassy in Washington D.C. (U.S.) from 2013 to 2017.

He served in the same capacity at the Embassy of Kosovo in The Hague/The Netherlands, from 2010 to 2013. Prior to joining Diplomatic Service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he worked as a political journalist for the biggest daily newspaper in Kosovo “Koha Ditore” from 2004-2009. In this capacity, he was assigned as a reporter to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) seated in The Hague to cover the trial of the former President of Serbia, Slobodan Milosevic, and other senior state officials indicted for war crimes.

Between 2006-2007 Mr Kastrati was an elected Board Member of the Kosovo Associatiation of Professional Journalists and he is the recipient of the Investigative journalism award. During his professional career, he worked as a reporter for the Kosovo Transparency Initiative – United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and later as a Local Expert of Communications for the European Consultants Organization in Brussels and Altair Asesores in Madrid in collaboration with the Kosovo Ministry of Interior.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Pristina University and a Master’s Degree in European Integration and Regionalism from the University of Graz - Austria, the European Academy of Bolzano - Italy, European Institute for Public Administration in Luxembourg and the European Centre for the Regions in Barcelona - Spain.

In 2016 he completed the National and International Security Program (NIS) at Harvard Kennedy School/Executive Education becoming the first candidate from Kosovo to be selected in this program. He also received professional trainings on Investigative Journalism and International Relations organized by Broadcasting Board of Governors – Washington D.C., European Center on Journalism seated in Brussels, and by The Netherlands Institute of International Relations --Kingdom of The Netherlands.
