This was the statement of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Behgjet Pacolli, in addressing the first Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom in the world, which is taking place in Washington DC, and hosted by the U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo.
"Kosovo is a country that is guided by the principles and values of democracy, human rights and freedom. Religious freedom is a principle that matters to us, because of our history, our heritage and our future, "said the Chief Diplomat of Kosovo.
"Muslims, Christians, Orthodox, Protestants, Jews and many other communities live together in harmony and coexistence. Inter-religious harmony is the principle we have been caring for centuries and we have not allowed political ideologies and political systems to break it, "added Foreign Minister Pacolli.
In the light of his speech, he also talked about the modern constitution of Kosovo regarding the separation of state and religious affairs; promotion of human, political, social and cultural rights and freedoms in accordance with the instruments of the United Nations and the Council of Europe; the process of adopting the modern Law on Freedom and Religious Rights; the idea of establishing an Office for Religious Communities within the Office of the Prime Minister and the Inter-Religious Initiative in Kosovo, in order to create opportunities for the communities for them to interact with one another.
"Kosovo has a unique tradition of tolerance and religious coexistence and this tradition - is expressed in our cultural heritage, in sites, in architectural values throughout Kosovo; and this is the best testimony we have been living together for centuries, "said Foreign Minister Pacolli, expressing the readiness to host the next inter-religious conference in our region.
