Kosovo, as it is
Beautiful. Rich. Young. This is the trinomial of Kosovo. Of natural Kosovo, as it is. Today, many countries do not have its natural beauties. Some lack assets. And others are getting old.
But this country seems to have problems with the image. The image that was created by others and the branding that it does not have. Narrative regarding this place is not at the right level. Love is fading away.
I don’t know the answer of this question as well? What I know, feel and was taught by my grandfather is that love and affection for the country never goes away, wherever you go, no matter where you are, from Europe to America and from America to Japan and Australia.
You can insist on asking me about the image we do not want, but I can only assume. Suppose that the causes may have come from those who did not spare means for undermining the existence of the new state and, unfortunately, even from domestic politics, who only contributed for the abovementioned cause.
But today, I will not deal with the analysis of the causes and consequences. Just, as I will not ask about the deeds of others. Simply, we will present the projects of what we have done during these 100 days and what are we going to do in the near future? Together with you media and journalists, analysts and professionals, scholars and writers, artists and sportsman.
For me, business experience has taught me that "less is more" and in the spirit of this philosophy of thoughts we started the work to promote a better and inspiring image for the country. You know that by nature I am not a politician. I am simply an entrepreneur with international credentials, and I got involved in the politics to make changes. Changes for the good of this country. For the order we lack. Details we do not see. The accuracy we want. I am also punctual in emotional aspect. I like everything to be in order. I see every detail even when I'm walking.
From my life experience, wherever I've gone and I have seen any sign or trace of Kosovo, I got emotional. Imagine the power that a beautiful photograph or statement has. Especially for what you have in your heart. What you love and are tied to. What your soul loves. This is the power of Public Diplomacy. This is the power of PR. These photographs and writings are made for people who love Kosovo. For all those that are here tonight. And others who are not, but we will see. Everywhere in the world, where Kosovo has friends. Where are the people of Kosovo. Other halls of important and influential institutions.
We started this project immediately after I accepted my official assignment and I did not stop even for a moment. Every small contribution and commitment you have made so far has indeed been of great value to us. We received a lot of calls from chief editors and journalists, photographers and artists and many people of goodwill.
We also completed the new website kosovoabc.com, which we will present today. Something that has been missing from our country and which will contain up to date information and photographs in the category of natural tourist attractions, music, sports, film, history, economy, international relations, political system, traditional cuisine and interviews with internationals living or have invested in our country.
We've build a new page on Wikipedia. We are in process of establishing Wikimedia User Group. We have started talks to implement our idea of the extraordinary project Virtual Kosovo. We have been thinking to develop an application with information and pictures about Kosovo.
But in order to push those that we started and to finish faster our work, we need to expand the partnership and cooperation with you.
Today, it is estimated that more than 50 per cent of the world's population uses the Internet, while forecasts show that it will have over 6.1 billion smartphones by 2020 or 70 per cent of the world's population.
Considering these global trends, we want, together with you to go beyond the means of "soft and wise power" and to orient and educate new generations to build a new Kosovo, where our society is not just consuming information for our country, but it is a producer.
We owe it to Kosovo to present its natural beauties in the best way possible, as God has created them. To promote the rich heritage, as it was built over the centuries. Culture, as it was preserved and cultivated by many generations. Sports, that made all of us proud. And our music stars, who are adored and listened from the entire world.
*This speech of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Behgjet Pacolli, was held on the occasion of announcing the award winners for the best photographs and writings for promotion of Kosovo in 2017. This ceremony was held at the National Museum, which was later accompanied by the Exhibition.
