Prishtina, 7 March 2018 - The Embassy of France in Kosovo announces that the 18th edition of the "Weeks of Francophonie 2018" will start tomorrow and will end on 31 March.
This already traditional activity is co-organized by the Kosovo’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the embassies and diplomatic representations of Belgium, Canada, France, Luxemburg, the Czech Republic and Switzerland, members of the International Organisation of La Francophonie and the Alliance Française de Prishtina. Kosovo, an observer member of the International Organisation of La Francophonie since 2014, continues to engage in the promotion of French language and Francophone cultures. This year's program is the result of cooperation between different organizers, whether Kosovo institutions or diplomatic missions. The inclusion and support of local cultural stakeholders are also important. The three "Weeks of Francophonie" are distinguished by a variety of events: concerts, movie shows, gastronomic activities, conferences, and youth activities. French artists and personalities will stay in Kosovo, including pop singers Charles Baptiste and Jo Edgar, the hip-hop group Jo2Plainp and the chef Christophe Dovergne. During the "Weeks of Francophonie", there will also be university activities, a presentation about studies in France and a symposium on the future of the French language in university education. Youth events will also be proposed. To celebrate International Women's Day on March 8, several activities will be organized, including a conference organized by OSCE and the French Embassy on the issue of women's access to property in Kosovo as well as theatre recitals in honour of women pioneers. University events also aim to celebrate the University of Prishtina's membership in the Francophone University Association network and the inauguration of the Francophone University Centre.
