Prishtina, 21 September 2020 – On Monday, in Prishtina, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mrs. Meliza Haradinaj-Stublla, and the Non-Resident Japanese Ambassador to the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Akira Mizutani, have signed the agreement of another donation from the Japanese government dedicated to the people of Kosovo.

The signing of the agreement worth ¥ 100 million (about € 810,000.00), took place at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Kosovo.

Minister Haradinaj-Stublla appreciated Ambassador Mizutani for the support that Japan has given to Kosovo throughout all phases of state-building, starting with the recognition of independence one month after its declaration, supporting the membership in various international organizations and assistance for economic development.

We are very grateful to the state of Japan, which has stood by us even during this difficult time of pandemic. “Today's agreement is a contribution to the implementation of the Program on Economic and Social Development, which will be implemented by the purchase of medical equipment”, said Minister Haradinaj-Stublla.

The Head of Kosovo Diplomacy said that through this assistance, Japan will contribute to improving the health system of Kosovo, and will ensure the enhancement of the work infrastructure for medical staff, in order to increase efficiency in the management of infectious diseases.

On the other hand, Ambassador Mizutani said that Japan is supporting Kosovo in its fight against COVID-19, and in enhancing the health system with new medical equipment of Japanese companies.

He stated that since the continuous increase in the number of patients with COVID-19 poses a great burden for the health system in Kosovo, Japan has considered of vital importance the strengthening of this system.

“Through this grant, Japan has provided medical equipment, such as a portable ultrasound imaging diagnostic system and bedside monitors, manufactured by Japanese companies”, said Ambassador Mizutani.

Today’s agreement between Kosovo and Japan shall enter into force on the date of its signing.
