Kosovo thanks Austria for assistance in concrete and political issues - Schallenberg: "Kosovo stands very high in the list of Austrian foreign policy".
Austrian Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, Mr. Alexander Schallenberg, expressed his country's full support for Kosovo, in the first bilateral (telephone) conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mrs. Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz.
In a cordial and respectful conversation, the Foreign Ministers of the Republic of Austria and the Republic of Kosovo talked about a range of topics, including the political situation in the region and concrete steps towards further cooperation.
Among the concrete topics was the valuable contribution of Austria in securing the contingent of vaccines for the Western Balkans within the EU, for which Foreign Minister Gërvalla-Schwarz thanked Austria very much on behalf of Kosovo.
Federal Minister Schallenberg stressed that Kosovo enjoys great sympathy in Austria and that it stands high on the list of foreign policy priorities of his country.
Minister Gërvalla-Schwarz requested the support of Austria in the efforts of the Republic of Kosovo to gain diplomatic recognition even from those EU partners, who have not yet become part of the vast majority of EU member states who have recognized Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state.
Regarding the normalization of relations with the Republic of Serbia, the Minister informed her colleague that the Kosovo side will first make an in-depth analysis of the talks so far and then will draft a proper strategy. Only on this basis, genuine negotiations to achieve lasting results would be possible.
Federal Minister Schallenberg invited his counterpart to attend the Wachau European Forum in Vienna on 11 June, where there will be opportunities for a direct exchange between foreign ministers from the region and beyond. He also stated that Foreign Minister Gërvalla-Schwarz is always welcome in Vienna.
