Minister Gërvalla meets President Meta and Parliament Speaker Nikolla

Tirana, 18 October 2021 - The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs Donika Gërvalla, is continuing meetings with heads of state in the framework of an official visit to Albania.

Today, she held separate meetings with the President of the Republic of Albania, Mr Ilir Meta, as well as the Speaker of the Parliament of Albania, Mrs Lindita Nikolla.

During the meeting with President Meta, they discussed political developments in both countries, issues of regional cooperation and foreign policy.

Further deepening of cooperation, excellent partnership between the two countries in all areas as well as increasing the dynamics in the implementation of the agreements reached so far, were also issues that were discussed at this meeting.

The parties also discussed the reforms that are being undertaken within the European agenda. Minister Gërvalla stressed that institutional exchanges between Kosovo and Albania in this regard are essential for accelerating the path of both countries and approximation with the EU.

During the meeting she had with the Speaker of the Parliament, Mrs Nikola, in addition to current developments, the central topic was strengthening Kosovo's international subjectivity and  stopping the Serbian offensive that is constantly harming Kosovo in terms of recognitions.

Speaker Nikolla stressed that it remains Albania's priority to support Kosovo in this regard, with all available capacities.

In both meetings, Minister Gërvalla expressed deep gratitude for the cooperation, partnership and great readiness of Albania to support Kosovo in every process towards empowerment and prosperity as a state.

During the day, Minister Gërvalla also met with representatives of the Albanian opposition, namely the head of the Democratic Party, Mr Lulzim Basha.

During the meeting she had with Basha, they discussed foreign policy, current affairs in both countries. The process of European integration was also a topic of discussion. They also talked about the progress of the electoral process that took place in Kosovo yesterday. Gërvalla, among other things, stressed the need for cooperation between the two countries, regardless of political currents.
